Brief information

York St John University is popular with local and international students alike. Why it is like that?

On the one hand there is the campus in the middle of the charming student city of York. Through the mixture of imposing historic city walls, small streets with hip restaurants and student energy, York has developed into a lively mini hotspot in recent decades that leaves nothing to be desired. Check whicheverhealth for more universities.

On the other hand, you have a particularly exciting learning experience at York St John University, because the course content is taught at the cutting edge: “Strategic Brand Management”, for example, you not only learn theoretically here, but also directly during a trip to the MINI plant in Oxford – it could hardly be more practical !

Maybe it’s because you don’t have to worry about finding accommodation. Every international student is guaranteed a room in one of the dormitories or in an apartment on campus.

At York St John’s University you not only have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of bachelor’s and master’s courses, but you can also study here for one or two semesters or take a language course.

An online language course will also be offered in autumn 2020.

The campus with Victorian architecture seems to have sprung from the “Harry Potter world”. In the central square between the buildings – called The Quad – you almost feel like you are in Hogwarts. It’s no wonder that YSJU even has a Harry Potter Society that sometimes offers a Quidditch tournament during orientation week.

Despite all the tradition, the equipment and technology at the YSJU are state-of-the-art and offer you an excellent learning environment. The De Gray Court, which mainly hosts business courses, and the Fountains Learning Center are located in the modern part of the campus and are among the most innovative buildings. The Fountain Learning Center includes the university library and well-equipped computer rooms. You can also look forward to other unique facilities such as modern lecture halls, new laboratories and a huge sports center.

Due to the optimal campus location, you also benefit from the ideal transport connections from York: by train you can be in the exciting industrial cities of Leeds and Manchester in a very short time ; The vibrant capital cities of London and Edinburgh are around two hours away. Wonderful coastlines and the two breathtaking national parks, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales, are also great destinations to discover over the weekend.

The college town of York

York is a city of just under 130,000, situated at the confluence of the Rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England, and is surrounded by a three-mile city wall. People like to walk along this route. Due to its favorable economic location between the capitals London and Edinburgh, York has long been an important trading hub. Today, the university and the healthcare industry in particular are the main employers in the city: the service industry employs almost 90% of the workforce.

Many tourists are attracted by York’s historic buildings such as York Minster, the cathedral in the center, but many cultural activities can also be visited. Particularly popular is “The Shambles”, a medieval, narrow street with many boutiques, tea rooms and shops. There are also many theaters and museums in the city, including the Castle Museum, Yorkshire Museum and the Richard III Museum. Incidentally, churches and pubs are particularly numerous in the student city. In terms of music and gastronomy, visitors don’t have to do without anything either, in September the “Festival of Food and Drink” takes place every year.

The town sits on fertile, flat land surrounded by the Pennines, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Wolds. York has a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. Average temperatures remain above freezing throughout the year.
