  • The University of Wittenberg ( Universität Wittenberg) was founded in 1502 by Frederick the Wise, Elector of Saxony, as the Renaissance was becoming more and more popular.
  • Wittenberg’s curriculum has centered on the liberal arts as an education that develops the individual’s capacity to think, read, and communicate with precision, understanding, and imagination.
  • Wittenberg was chartered in 1845 by Ezra Keller and a group of pastors who broke with the German church and created the English Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Ohio.
