The resort of Tignes is divided into three main centers: Tignes Le Lac, Lavachet and Val Claret. They are located around the lake and are interconnected by modern lifts. Tignes is also home to cozy cafes on the mountains, incendiary discos and luxurious restaurants.

How to get to Tignes

According to clothesbliss, Tignes is located near Val d’Isère, 165 km from Geneva International Airport, transfer time by bus or taxi about 3.5 hours). Also nearby are the airports of Lyon (240 km), Champery (130 km, domestic flights) and Grenoble.

Ben’s Bus (www.bensbus.co.uk) runs from Grenoble Airport and Geneva to the resort in winter. From Grenoble – every Saturday and Sunday, fare 53-68 EUR one way. From Geneva – on Saturdays, the cost is 40-50 EUR one way. Places are best booked in advance.

To Tignes by train

You can also come to Tignes by train, just half an hour from the resort there is the Bourg-St-Maurice station, where trains come from all over France, including from Paris on the TGV high-speed train (690 km). Look for the schedule and fare on the website: www.voyages-sncf.com. Altibus buses (www.altibus.com) run from Bourg Saint Maurice (and Geneva airport, by the way) to Tignes.

To Tyn by car

In addition, you can easily get to the resort by your own (well, or rented) car. The D902 road leads to Tignes, from which the A430 Chambéry – Albertville departs, the dual carriageway to Moûtiers, the N90 motorway to Bourg Saint Maurice (where the railway station is located), to Tignes (Tignes). When using a GPS navigator, it is worth making sure that the proposed route does not pass through the Petit Saint Bernard Pass in winter, as it operates only in summer and opens at the end of May.

Parking lots and buses Tignes

The resort cannot be driven by car. At the entrance to Tignes, there is a comfortable large parking lot, and you can easily get to the hotel-lift-restaurant by a free bus that runs around the resort around the clock: only 24 stops on the route from Tignes-les-Bois to Tignes-Val-Claret-Grand Mott.

  • Tignes Val Claret, covered car park with 945 spaces
  • Tignes-les-Lavache, covered car park with 325 spaces
  • Tignes-la-Grand-Motte, outdoor car park with 750 spaces
  • Tignes-que-Brevières (10 km from Tignes-le-Lac)
  • Tignes-que-Bois (4 km from Tignes-le-Lac)

Parking fees apply during winter, from November to May. You need to contact the Accueil parkings customer service, which are open around the clock: at the Tignes-le-Lac house (La Maison de Tignes Le Lac) and at the Grand Motte car park in Tignes Val Claret.

Wi-Fi

The resort has several official free Wi-Fi points. In Tignes Val Claret, at the Maison du Val Claret. In Tignes les Brévières – at the post office.

In Tignes-le-Lac (Lavache): Maison du Lavachet, Espace Saisonniers, City Hall, Le Lagon Aquatic Center, Maison du Lac.

Tinja hotels

The resort of Tignes is made up of several towns scattered at an altitude of 1550 to 2100 m. The main hotels and residences are located around the lake, between the towns of Tignes le Lac and Tignes Val Claret. But in the cozy Tignes les Boisses and Tignes les Brévières, which are located at an altitude of 1850 and 1550 m, you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of an alpine village, among traditional chalets and cozy restaurants.

In total, the resort has 17 hotels: three hotels of the 4 * level, nine – 3 * (one new hotel in 2010) and five hotels of the 2 * level. You can also stay in apartments, six residences or 20 club hotels.

Tignes Restaurants

They say that the best après-ski is at L’Arobase and Le Café Rouge. But for lovers of a cozy mountain atmosphere, Grizzly’s Bar, which is located in Thieu-Val-Claret, is better suited: here the furniture is made of light wood, and the entire interior in the form of all kinds of bears and mice was carved personally by the owner-sculptor of the cafe.

Restaurants La Table en Montagne, Le Chalet Bouvier, La Place or Le Clin d’œil are famous for excellent cuisine. You can also have a good dinner on the glacier, at an altitude of 3000 m, where the Le Panoramic restaurant opens its doors every Thursday. In addition, there are a couple of discos in Tignes: Le Blue Girl and Le Melting Pot.

Tignes slopes

Tignes has a summer half-pipe on the Grand Motte glacier and a winter fun park next to the Palafour circuit. As well as 20 km of cross-country skiing, the longest track is the 6 km Brevieres. The highest mountain is on the glacier, 2900 m, length – 6 km, difficult.

What’s new for snowboarders? The rails and modules of the first winter X Games have been moved to the Swatch snowpark. A new Big Airbag has been built, which allows you to softly land on the airbag after a series of dizzying jumps. In addition, for the new season, the boardercross was extended by 300 m. And for dessert: now, when the freestyler descends, its image appears on a huge monitor, the skiing is recorded, and then all the videos are posted on the Swatch website. The Swatch Snowpark can be reached by the Grattalu chair lift; open every day, unlimited access, from 9:30 to 16:30, free of charge.

But at the Nissan Glide Park, you can capture all your achievements in Multi-Burst photos, go through a mini-boardercross track, an obstacle course, a parallel slalom, a series of woops waves and a rail and jump zone on the Millonex slope.

Ski pass

The resort has two ski passes: for the Tignes ski area (150 km of slopes) and Espace Killy (300 km of slopes). Children under 5 and adults over 75 are entitled to a free ski pass. The reduced rate applies to skiers aged 65 to 74 and children aged 5 to 13. Ski pass prices: for 6 days in Espace Killy: 296 EUR for adults and 236 EUR, for 1 day in Espace Killy: 61 EUR and 49 EUR respectively.

Entertainment and attractions in Tignes

Tignes has a cinema with three halls, five nightclubs, a large sports center, a library and a casino. You can try ice diving in Tinh Lake. Children will find here numerous entertainments created especially for them: sleds, skates, igloos (ice huts).

Sports activities in Tignes: ice skating, snowshoeing, snowmobiling or dog sledding, ski gering, winter biking, paragliding, heli-skiing, rock climbing and ice climbing, quad and buggy racing, ice karting, ice driving lessons and relaxation at Le Lagon Aquatic Centre. In the aquatic center with a water space of about five thousand m², tourists are waiting for swimming pools with slides and fountains, a fitness room, saunas, a jacuzzi and a hammam. Cost: 60 minutes per day of exercises to restore shape (strength gymnastics, fitness) + access to the pool – from 20 EUR per day, 75 EUR per week. Access to the 25-meter pool is paid separately: 4.70 EUR per day for a child, 6.10 EUR per day for an adult, 18 EURper week for a child, 23 EUR per week for an adult. Free entry for children under 5 accompanied by an adult.

The Tinja skating rink is a 600-meter ice track and a complex (2,000 m²) including a playground, a hockey stadium and an entertainment area. The entrance is free. Opening hours: from 16:00 to 20:00, ice disco once a week from 20:00 to 22:00. Skate rental: adults 3 EUR, children under 13 years old – 2 EUR.

Bungee trampolines are dizzying jumps and acrobatic tricks with bouncing to a height of more than 6 m. Available for children from 2.5 years old and for adults weighing up to 80 kg. The cost of one session is 5 EUR, a subscription for 6 sessions is 25 EUR.
