The archipelago of Marshall Islands is part of Micronesia, and is formed by the Ratak and Ralik islands, which group together numerous atolls. The name derives from that of the English captain John Marshall, who officially conquered them in 1788. The island of Bikini also belongs to this group of islands, well known because in the 1940s the United States carried out the first nuclear tests there. And the island of Bikini, in 1946, gave its name to the very small two-piece swimsuit, whose arrival on the market should have had, according to its inventor, the effect of a real bomb. According to COUNTRYAAH, Marshall Islands is a nation in Micronesia, the capital city of which is Majuro. The latest population of Marshall Islands is 59,201.

THE STATE
Subject to the trusteeship of the United States from 1947 to 1986, the Marshall Islands are a sovereign and autonomous republic. The head of state, who is also head of government, is elected by Parliament every four years and exercises executive power with the help of the Council of Ministers. The Assembly, on the other hand, holds the legislative power, whose members are elected by universal suffrage for a four-year term. The system of judgment in use is based on a mixture of rules deriving from the Common Law, by legislative acts, by local norms and customs; the emanations of the International Court are not accepted. Justice is administered, at its highest degree, by the Supreme Court, flanked by a High Court. The Marshall Islands do not have an autonomous defense system, which is ensured by the United States, like the management of foreign policy. However, there is a police force. Education is compulsory from 6 to 14 years of age and concerns primary and secondary school. Higher education, on the other hand, is given in various locations including that of Majuro, where the College of the Marshall Islands is located, which became independent from the College of Micronesia in 1993. On the islands there is also a branch of the University of South Pacific.

GEOGRAPHY
The archipelago consists of 34 atolls arranged along two arches oriented in the NW-SE direction, which take the name of Ratak (or Aurora islands, 16 atolls) to the NE and Ralik (or Sunset islands, 18 atolls) to SW. The main atolls are Jaluit, Kwajalein, the largest in Oceania, Majuro, Bikini and Enewetak, the last two atomic polygons between 1949 and 1956. There are no mountain ranges: the lands emerge a few meters above the sea level and the highest point is Likiep (10 m). The climate is tropical, with temperatures reaching 28 ° C and rainfall ranging from 500-800 mm per year in the northern areas to 4000 mm in the south, with a rainy season concentrated from May to November.
