The climate is continental with comparatively mild winters and moderately warm summers as well as sufficient rainfall all year round. It is warmest in the Moselle valley. In the Ösling with its extensive coniferous and mixed forests lies the cross-border German-Luxembourg National Park. Its landscape forms, traversed by rivers, range from bizarre rock formations with deeply cut valleys to dense forests and open green spaces. A number of rare plant and animal species can be found there. Oak and beech forests grow in the Gutland, and there are also large areas of arable land and green areas. At theFruit and wine grow on the Moselle.

The number of environmental scandals such as an oil leak at the tire company “Goodyear” in 2016 or water pollution from outdated sewage treatment plants has increased continuously in recent years. Luxembourg is stepping up water protection and control. The government promotes sustainable development in the Grand Duchy. It focuses on avoiding plastic waste through reusable solutions, promotes local public transport and electromobility, as well as energy-efficient construction.
