Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean in the Gulf of Guinea, the Ivory Coast was one of the most flourishing colonies of the AOF (French Western France) and one of the richest countries in all of Africa S of the Sahara. Compared to the thriving colonial past, the social conditions of the population are less satisfactory at the beginning of the 21st century, especially due to the high rates of infant mortality and illiteracy. The economic difficulties and political turbulence have also caused a worsening of the situation in recent years, signaled by the ranking of the human development index, which now places it among the 15 most backward countries in the world. According to COUNTRYAAH, Côte d’Ivoire is a nation in Western Africa, the capital city of which is Yamoussoukro. The latest population of Côte d’Ivoire is 26,378,285. THE STATE
Independent since 1960, the country is a presidential republic. On the basis of the Constitution of 7 August 1960, amended several times, the President of the Republic is elected for 5 years by direct suffrage., like the National Assembly. The amendments made between 1999 and 2000 limited to pure Ivorians (ie those with both parents and four Ivorian grandparents) the right to stand for top political positions. The judicial system is based on French law and local customs. The Supreme Court, the highest level of judgment in the country, is made up of 4 sections: constitutional, judicial, administrative and accounting. So we find 2 Courts of Appeal and Courts of First Instance. The death penalty was abolished in 2002. Before 2003, the country’s military forces were composed of the three traditional weapons and paramilitary forces; military service was carried out on a selective basis and the detention was six-monthly. From that date the picture is completely upset, UN, flanked by a French military contingent. In the Ivory Coast, education, free at all levels, is compulsory from 7 to 13 years old. Primary education lasts 6 years, while secondary education lasts 7 years and is divided into two cycles of 4 and 3 years respectively. In 2006, the percentage of illiterate adults was 51.3%. Higher education is given in the universities of Abidjan, Yamoussoukro and Bouaké.

CLIMATE
Due to its position, between 4º and 10º of lat. N, the Ivory Coast has a transitional climate between the subequatorial and the tropical; fundamentally it originates from the alternation over the course of the year of the influences of the continental and oceanic air masses, the latter however less and less marked as one proceeds northwards. In the southern region there are consequently abundant rains (2000-2500 mm per year, with maximum peaks of even 5000 mm in the western coastal area), which fall in two seasons, from May to July and from September to October, alternating with dry ones.; temperatures are, on the other hand, constantly high, with annual averages of around 27 ºC. In the northern area, rainfall decreases to 1000 mm and in the extreme NE even to 700 mm per year, concentrated in a harmattan, a dry wind of Saharan origin. Finally, the northern area is characterized by significantly less abundant rainfall, which reaches an average of 1200 mm per year. In relation to the alternation of the two seasons, temperatures vary considerably during the year; even the daily excursions are particularly accentuated reaching, during the dry season, up to 20-25 ° C.
