India, this state of Asia constitutes one of the largest political units in the world, second in population only to the People’s Republic of China. The country, an immense peninsula closed to the N by the Himalayas, is a real subcontinent in terms of size, ethnic groups present in the area, languages and traditions used by the population. Established in the mid-twentieth century as a modern state entity (with the name of the Indian Union) after a long colonial past, India still experiences intense conflicts with neighboring countries for the jurisdiction of some portions of territory located along the borders, to starting from the mountainous area of Kashmir (claimed in part by Pakistan and in part already occupied by China), in Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal. The former Portuguese possessions of Goa, Daman and Diu, the former French possessions of Chandannagar, Yanam, Pondicherry, Karikal and Mahe, the Lakshadweep (Laccadive islands) and the Andaman and Nicobar islands are now part of the Indian territory. (connected, instead, to Southeast Asia). Not even the process of formation of national identity was carried out painlessly: since its constitution, India, similarly to Pakistan and Bangladesh, has in fact been the scene of a real cross-population exodus, in an attempt to provide the main religious confessions in the region (Hindus and Muslims) with a state in which they can also recognize themselves as a nation. To this day, the clashes and tensions that ensued and that have punctuated the last 50 years of the twentieth century have not yet found a full composition. The country, therefore, which hosts one of the richest and most fruitful cultural, historical and religious stratifications in the world, has not only found itself faced with a process of reconstruction of a political and cultural unity, but almost from scratch. At the same time, the Indian Union was hit by a very strong demographic and economic growth. Today, in fact, despite persistent social contradictions and deep internal disparities, the Indian subcontinent ranks among the first countries in the world in terms of GDP growth, and appears as one of the protagonists of rapid and aggressive Asian development, the effects of which have an impact on world scale: from the boost to supply to the consequent erosion of energy resources, from the environmental effects caused by the pollution of the increasingly large urban agglomerations to the modification of financial structures and power relations between Western powers and Asian countries themselves. Precisely this role of increasing centrality has attracted the attention of economic analysts and development scholars, who underlined how fundamental for the future balance of the planet is India’s involvement in international tables in which global governance issues are addressed. Not to mention that the Indian presence no longer affects the economies of Western countries only through the invasion of markets or through the alternative of productive delocalization, facilitated by the enormous availability of low-cost labor: as for China, it seems to be valid. the trend, increasingly widespread in the main industrial groups worldwide, of the use of Indian professionals for the roles of greater responsibility, Chief Executive are Indians). However, the persistence of many traditional aspects (from arranged marriages to the influence of religious beliefs and practices that still pervade today the social organization and structure of some economic sectors) continues to counterbalance this economic landscape. they appear almost anachronistic when compared to the race towards modernization. Last but not least, the political situation of the country also allows us to glimpse how many outstanding issues remain to be solved, starting with widespread corruption among the ruling class and an often personalistic political management of collective interests. According to COUNTRYAAH, India is a nation in Southern Asia, the capital city of which is New Delhi. The latest population of India is 1,380,004,396.
