Located in the heart of the Indochinese peninsula, Cambodia was the cradle of the Khmer civilization, which elaborated in original forms the cultural values of the most ancient Hindu kingdoms that arose in the plains of the peninsula. The sense of greatness and power expressed by the Khmer kings finds its main expression in that very particular tangle of nature and artifacts of the past that emerges near Angkor, one of the ancient capitals of the empire, an eloquent symbol of the deep cultural, political and religious to which these territories were subject. Known in the past as the Land of Gentiles or the Land of Smiles, Cambodia has been overwhelmed on several occasions by the lacerations resulting from the wars and terror of the dictatorial regimes that have bloodied the country for more than twenty years. Despite the setbacks followed by colonial rule, the closure of the borders following the conclusion of the Viet Nam war, the devastating internal conflicts that have shaken the civil fabric of the country, Cambodia has repeatedly tried to regain a balance that still appears far away. In this complex framework, the country seems to maintain what has always been its distinctive features, scratched only superficially by the French domination. Essentially agricultural, linked to the rice fields and the seasonal rhythm of the great river that crosses it and gives it life, the the country seems to keep what its distinctive features have always been, scratched only superficially by the French domination. Essentially agricultural, linked to the rice fields and the seasonal rhythm of the great river that crosses it and gives it life, the Mekong, Cambodia therefore faces a difficult process of recovery both from the economic point of view and from the point of view of internal political stability, aggravated, on the one hand, by structural deficiencies and the very low power of attraction of foreign investments and, on the other, from an arduous return to democracy. According to COUNTRYAAH, Cambodia is a nation in Southeastern Asia, the capital city of which is Phnom Penh. The latest population of Cambodia is 16,718,976. Hydrographically, the country is almost entirely linked to the Mekong. Fueled by monsoon rains, it has a maximum flow rate (in October) of 60,000 m 3 / s, which is reduced to 15,000 m 3 / s in the lean period. During the flood the river floods the plain, deposits fertile silt and irrigates the rice fields, which in that period are transformed into sparkling mirrors; it pours part of its waters into the Tonle Sap, whose surface, which in the dry phase is 250 km², increases up to 10,000 km².

The monsoon rains, which are abundant throughout the territory, well exposed to the SW monsoon, also contribute to seasonal flooding. The highest rainfall occurs on the reliefs, such as on the Cardamom Mountains, where, on the maritime side, it reaches 5000 mm per year; inside the depression, sheltered from the other peripheral lands, the average height does not exceed 1500 mm, which in Phnom Penh drops to approx. 1000 mm. The rains fall between May and October, followed by the dry season from November to February. In the period leading up to the rainy season, the highest temperature values are recorded, with averages in the capital of approx. 28ºC; the minimum values occur in January, and of course on the reliefs (approx. 15 ºC).
