Algeria is an independent republic; on the basis of the Constitution approved with the referendum of February 1989, replacing that of 1976, the end of the single-party socialist system was sanctioned and multi-partyism allowed; according to the amendment of the 1996 Constitution, the President of the Republic, who has broad powers of government, is elected by direct suffrage for 5 years (in November 2008 a law eliminated the limit of two presidential terms); the members of the National Assembly are also elected by direct suffrage. Parties whose ideology refers to race, religion, gender and the language of adoption have been banned. The judicial system in use in the country is based on French law and Islamic law. The Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal and the various courts make up the judicial hierarchy. The death penalty is in force for crimes of terrorism, even if the executions have not taken place since 1993. The armed forces of Algeria are divided into three traditional weapons: army, navy and air force, to these must be added two paramilitary organizations, a subsidiary of the Ministry of the Interior, the other directly from the individual municipalities. In the colonial period, Algeria followed the general line of French education for the colonies; since independence, in 1962, an intense educational program has been implemented that has led to an increase in children in primary school, but in 2015 the illiteracy rate remained high but down compared to the previous decade (19.8 %). Education is compulsory and free for 9 years (ages 6 to 15). The school system is divided into three cycles: elementary school, lasting 6 years, from 6 to 12 years; secondary schools, lasting a total of 6 years, are divided within them into two microcycles of 3 years each, of which only the first is compulsory; high school is taught in universities and colleges. Oran (Ouahran), Annaba and Constantina (Qacentina). According to COUNTRYAAH, Algeria is a nation in Northern Africa, the capital city of which is Algiers. CLIMATE
Characterized by an arid climate in the summer and relatively rainy during the cool season, Algeria of the Maghreb is affected, due to its latitude, by the variations of the polar front, responsible for the movements of fresh air and variable weather for even very extended periods during year (7-9 months), as well as the influence of the Saharan air mass. Northern Algeria has quite cold winters, in contrast to hot summers; moreover, the arrangement parallel to the coast of the Tell ranges places a screen between the sea and the interior. The result is a certain bioclimatic compartmentalisation: the real Mediterranean climate characterizes only a coastal strip, while the Saharan influence is manifested more intensely in the S, particularly due to the sirocco. In Tell, annual rainfall is generally greater than 400 mm; however, considerable differences are observed between the Oran area (less than 500 mm, due to the proximity of the Iberian Peninsula, which constitutes a real screen) and the mountainous E, exposed to sea winds (over 1000 mm in the region of Kabylia). There is also a contrast between the climate of the coast and that of the inland basins, where winter experiences freezing temperatures, while in summer daytime temperatures can reach 47 ° C and average rainfall falls below 400 mm. Between the Tell and the Sahara there is a well-defined subarid zone that is affected by the degradation of the Mediterranean climate, due to the scarcity and extreme irregularity of the rains, the dryness of the air, the sudden changes in temperature, the frosts, the sirocco. In the’ Given the altitude, the climate of the Tell reappears to a certain extent: in fact, 400 mm of precipitation is found on the northern slopes, from 400 to 600-800 mm in the Hodna mountains and in the Aurès, while the southern slopes are very more arid. Mountain rainfall feeds the uidian, the springs and water tables, of which the oases of the foothills live.
