Saas Fee, one of the highest mountain resorts in Switzerland, is a great place for advanced and expert skiing. The local ski area consists of 4 parts, the largest of which is Saas Fee itself (1800 m).

The nearby villages of Saas-Grund (Saas-Grund, 1559 m), Saas-Balen (Saas-Balen) and Saas-Almagell (Saas-Almagell, 1672 m) offer less extensive, but in their own way interesting routes. Each of the villages can be quickly reached by bus, and the local ski-pass unites all these resorts. It exists in several versions: Saas-Fee, Grund – Almagell – Balen, Saas-Almagell, Saas – Balen and common to the entire ski area. There are special discounts for families with children. Check cancermatters for more cities and countries in Europe.

Saas-Fee has the highest metro in the world, in the construction of which Mosmetrostroy took part – a lift hidden in the rock to the top of Mittelallalin (3500 m), to the famous Die drehenden funf Sterne restaurant and an ice grotto.

How to get to Saas-Fee

Flight to Geneva or Zurich, then train to Brig or Visp, on the bus “Saas-Fe – Post”. Transfer time from Geneva is around 3.5 hours, from Zurich – 4 hours 45 minutes.

Saas-Fee can be reached by car, but car traffic is prohibited in the resort itself. From the garages at the entrance to the hotel, guests will be delivered by an electric car.

Saas-Fee slopes

Thanks to the Fögletscher glacier, there is always snow in Saas-Fee – and for skiers this can compensate for the lack of a large number of slopes.

True, the glacier at the same time poses a danger with its cracks, so any off-piste skiing is strictly prohibited in Saas-Fee.

There are few steep slopes for the “pros”, but they may well satisfy the needs of skiers of the highest class. Interesting “red” and “black” slopes with good snow cover descend from the Lengfluh peak (Lengfluh, 2870 m), the slopes to Platden (Plattjen, 2570 m) and Felskinn (Felskinn, 3000 m) also deserve attention. Difficult areas are located along the edges of the glacier: this is a steep black descent Langflu-Spielboden, a mogul training ground on the slopes of Egginer Joch (Egginer, 3370 m). In general, the difficult tracks of Saas-Fee are primarily interesting for their relief, and not for their steepness.

Saas-Fee is best suited for intermediate skiers: long and easy “red” runs are located in Mittelallalin (3500 m). From Allalin to the village there is the longest route of the resort – 14 km. The resort is also interesting for snowboarders: in Saas-Fee there is a fan park located at an altitude of 3400 meters, open all year round, as well as a half-pipe and a boardercross track (3200-3400 m). For beginners, there is a large ski area below the station. With a little getting used to, you can climb the slopes in Pladen and Felskinn.

Cross-country skiers will find about 8 km of slopes here, of which 6 km are classics, 2 km of skating and another 26 km of slopes in the region. And also: 52 km of winter hiking trails (marked and prepared), 30 km of snowshoe trails and 5 km of toboggan run with a vertical drop of 550 m.

Cuisine and restaurants

The resort has quite expensive restaurants: both at hotels and “independent”. A local attraction is the Allalin revolving restaurant at an altitude of 3.5 km. According to its owners, on a clear day, you can look around the whole of Switzerland without getting up from his table.
