Pomorie is a Bulgarian resort on the Black Sea coast, known since ancient times for its unique healing mud. On land, the city is surrounded by salt lakes – Pomorie and Small Salt. Between them are the famous medical sanatoriums. It is thanks to the therapeutic mud and lakes that the Pomorie resort is so popular with tourists today.

For the exceptional healing mud and salt lakes, the Thracians called this area “sacred”. Check clothingexpress for information about visa to Bulgaria.

The resort of Pomorie is located on a narrow picturesque rocky peninsula, 20 km northeast of Bourgas and 18 km from Sunny Beach. The peninsular part of the modern mainland is connected by a narrow isthmus. The length of the coast is over 4 km, the descent to the sea is gentle, there are no mountains or large forests in the area, the landscape is flat. The sea near the resort is very clean, which is confirmed by the international label of ecological purity of the resort “Blue Flag”, received in 1999. Vineyards surround Pomorie from the coast.

Considering Pomorie as a beach resort should be the last thing. Despite the clear sea and a convenient beach, the sand, due to the abundance of iron in it, has an unpleasant brown-gray color, and in some places it does not exist at all – only stones. Much more vacationers are attracted by salt mines sparkling in the sun, vineyards and a wine cellar – one of the largest in Bulgaria.

How to get to Pomorie

The main air gate of Pomorie is Burgas Airport, located just 10 km from the resort. If necessary, you can fly to Varna, but in this case, you will have to travel another 3 hours by bus to Pomorie. Combined budgetary routes “airplane-bus” through Chisinau and Istanbul allow you to expand the geography of the trip and get to know these cities better.

Traveling from Moscow or St. Petersburg by rail is also possible. However, this is the most tiring (3-4 transfers), long (up to 3 days) and expensive option. The main advantage of car travel is independence from schedules, no transfers and no luggage weight restrictions. The downside is the long distance.

Hotels

The hotel base is represented mainly by five- and four-star hotels. The resort is famous for its sanatoriums, which provide a wide range of wellness treatments.

Treatment

The resort of Pomorie is focused primarily on therapeutic rest. The rich black mud extracted from the firth lake contains a large number of various substances that have a beneficial effect on the human body. She treats diseases of the musculoskeletal system, peripheral and central nervous system, upper respiratory tract, gynecological, skin diseases.

The first mud bath in Pomorie was opened in 1902, when the unique healing qualities of the local mud were proven. Now spa tourism is actively developing in the city, the area is gradually turning into a balneological resort.

In Pomorie, I also often and most importantly effectively use meadow in the treatment – it is a yellow thick oil-like liquid with a bitter-salty taste. It contains all the micro and macro elements of sea water, biogenic stimulators of tissue hormones, enzymes of the decay products of plankton in lakes, and colloids. Basically, it is used in electrophoresis with galvanic current and in the treatment of diseases of the upper respiratory tract.

Entertainment and attractions in Pomorie

Pomorie, like many other ancient cities, is conditionally divided into two parts: Old and New. Old Pomorie is decorated with expressive houses with winding narrow streets, and New Pomorie is decorated with modernist two-four-story individual buildings, “folding” into rectangular quarters. The infrastructure in the New City is well developed: there are shops, cafes, restaurants, banks and hotels everywhere, mostly five- and four-star hotels.

Wellness procedures in Pomorie can be done right on the territory of the hotels.

There are few attractions in the resort town. These are the Orthodox monastery of St. George the Victorious and the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, the salt museum and the architectural reserve “Old Houses of Pomorie”: a block of Bulgarian houses of the 19th century typical of the Black Sea coast.

Various concerts, theatrical performances and poetry evenings are regularly held in Pomorie. You can arrange a wine tour to the Pomorie cellar or rent a sailboat on the beach, go windsurfing, parasailing, diving or fishing.

Weather

Pomorie is the sunniest place on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The climate here is temperate continental with Mediterranean influences. Air temperature in summer +25…+33 °С, water +24…+30 °С. The sun is strongest in July, but thanks to the sea breezes, the heat is easily tolerated. Precipitation in Pomorie is infrequent in summer, but the rainiest season of the year is autumn.
