New Jersey, a state in the east of America nicknamed the Garden State. According to ablogtophone, New Jersey has an area of 22,608 km² and approximately 9 million inhabitants. Trenton is the state capital.
The state was first colonized by Swedes and the Dutch. The Dutch settled in the north of the current state of New Jersey and the Swedes in the southern part. In 1655 the Dutch conquered the colonies of the Swedes, but a few years later (1664) they had to cede all their colonies in the area to the English.
After the state came into English hands, the Duke of York divided the territory between the Hudson and Delaware rivers to two of his protégés: John Lord Berkeley and Sir George Carteret. The east of the colony was colonized by Puritans, but in the west the Quakers expanded their influence, leading to a division into two territories, which were not united until 1702, when New Jersey became a crown colony.
New Jersey was very divided during the American Revolution (1775-1783). According to bestitude, the state became the third state to accede to the Union on December 18, 1787.
Flag & motto
On the yellow-brown colored flag of the state of New Jersey, the coat of arms from the seal of the state can be found in the middle. The reason the flag is tan is because George Washington, on October 2, 1777, ordered the army troops of the area to wear Jersey blue uniforms with tan-edged tan. The flag was inaugurated on March 11, 1896, during the General Assembly.
Morristown National Historical Park
Near the city of Morristown, there is a historical park of the same name, which preserves interesting locations that were connected in the past with the American Revolutionary War that took place in the years 1775 – 1783. The area was occupied by General George Washington and his Continental Army. Washington chose this location for its logistical, topographical, and geographic military advantages. Another advantage was of course the proximity to New York City, which was occupied by the British in 1779.
Morristown National Historic Park consists of three sites: Ford Mansion, Fort Nonsence, and Jockey Hollow. All these places played an important role during the war, which ended only in 1783 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. Morristown was then called the main military town, mainly due to its strategic location. In addition, it was also George Washington’s headquarters and a storehouse of basic supplies.
Jockey Hollow is located a few miles south of Morristown. This place served as a camp for the Continental Army. Fort Nonsence was built on a high hill above the city, from where fire signals were sent. Ford Mansion, located on top of a hill in Morristown, was where George Washington and the Continental Army survived the harsh winter that lasted from December 1779 to May 1780.
The area became a national historical park on March 2, 1933, bringing the history and history of the country closer. Extensive archaeological work has helped to reveal some of the ambiguities related to the war. Around 13,000 soldiers lived in the area during the war, which only the gravestones of the church cemetery remind of.
