Last but not least, the excellent reputation of De Anza College is due to its close ties to top universities in the USA. Students who graduate here tend to be exceptionally successful in their further academic careers.

Multiculturalism is very important at the college, for example there are many specially designed events on campus. International students can complete the first two years of a bachelor’s degree and earn an associate ‘s degree at De Anza College.

There is then the possibility of entering the third year of a bachelor’s degree at a US university, for example at a University of California or a California State University, without losing any time. Degrees in Accounting, Environmental Studies, Manufacturing and Design Technology, Nursing, Paralegal Studies, and a few others are particularly popular.

Campus

The De Anza College campus is located in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains in Cupertino, in the heart of Silicon Valley, just 70 kilometers from the metropolitan city of San Francisco. The headquarters of some very well-known high-tech companies from the IT industry are also located here.

De Anza College is the largest single-campus college in the country. This is on the former site of the Beaulieu Winery and houses important buildings such as the Euphrates Museum of Art or the Kirsch Center, which opened in 2005 as a prime example of sustainable construction.

Architecturally, the campus consists of a mixture of Spanish and modern styles. The Spanish influences are particularly evident in the red canopies and arched passageways. Despite the central location, the campus appears natural and cosy, also thanks to the numerous plants and fountains.

The college town of Cupertino

Cupertino is a medium-sized small town in Santa Clara County in the state of California and has about 51,000 inhabitants. It is located in the middle of the world-famous Silicon Valley and is in the catchment area of the San Francisco Bay Area. The major cities of San Jose and San Francisco are only 6 and 45 miles away respectively.

Numerous well-known technology and IT companies are based in Silicon Valley, such as Apple Computer, CISCO, Intel, Oracle, Hewlett-Packard, Silicon Graphics and Sun Microsystems. But large companies such as Levi Strauss and United Airlines are also based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Cupertino itself has a suburban character due to its proximity to San Jose, and as such serves as a home base for many San Jose professionals. The city has a relatively high standard of living thanks to high-tech companies such as Apple Computers having their headquarters here. There is no city center in the usual sense, but numerous shops and two shopping centers have settled at the intersection of the two main streets Stevens Creek and DeAnza Boulevards.
