The climate of Barber
The village of Barber is located in the north of the island of Curaçao. The town with approximately 2500 inhabitants is located on the Weg naar Westpunt. If you drive from the capital Willemstad to Westpunt, you will automatically pass through Barber. Barber is the largest village in the fairly sparsely populated region of Bandabou. That is why a number of facilities can be found here, such as the emergency services (police, fire brigade and ambulance), a cemetery and a supermarket. The name Barber comes from the former Plantation Barbara, which was founded here at the beginning of the eighteenth century. Barbara has been corrupted to Barber over time. The plantation has since disappeared, but the former country house is still there. It now serves as a rectory. Behind the former country house you will find the park Hòfi Pastor. There is the oldest kapok tree in Curaçao, which is now about eight hundred years old.
Barber has a tropical climate. In this case, a tropical savanna climate, to be precise. Daytime temperatures are always around thirty degrees. During the first months of the year maybe just below the tropical limit of 30 degrees Celsius, later in the year it is more often just a bit above. Due to its geographical location, Barber has a slightly higher chance of rain and wind than on the southwestern coastal areas.
