The climate of the Arikok National Park

Since the year 2000 Aruba has its own national park: Arikok. This protected nature reserve is located in the northeastern part of Aruba. It covers an area of 34 square kilometers. That is almost 20% of the entire island. The Arikok National Park mainly consists of hilly landscape. Part of the landscape consists of solidified lava, part of limestone rocks and various other rocks. The flora mainly consists of shrubs and trees that thrive in a semi-arid climate such as that applicable in Aruba. You will encounter quite a lot of cacti during a walk or drive through the national park. On the coast you will find a number of so-called bocas. These coves provide white sandy beaches on the otherwise rugged north coast. Well-known bays are Boca Prins and Dos Playa Beach.

According to paulfootwear.com, the climate in the Arikok National Park is a warm steppe climate. This semi-arid climate is indicated by the letter code BSh. Typical features of this climate are the relatively limited amounts of precipitation and the fairly constant high temperatures, both during the day and in the evening. The afternoon temperature averages between 28/29 to about 33/34 degrees Celsius. Walking in the shelter can feel seriously hot and stuffy. If you walk in places where the trade wind has free play, it will feel less warm. The cooling effect of the wind is especially noticeable on the coast.

The weather is mainly dry with a light cloudy sky. Sometimes there are heavier clouds, which can easily lead to a shower. Often the sun shines again fairly quickly after the last raindrops from a shower have reached the earth. During the last few months of the year it can rain a bit longer and more often. This is the wetter period. Sometimes this is referred to as the rainy season. Compared to real tropical rainy seasons, the wetter period in Aruba is not that much.
