Religion in Belarus

Approximately 70% of the believing population of Belarus are Orthodox, about 20% are Catholics, 2% are Protestants, 8% are Jews and Muslims.

Transport in Belarus

Belarus can be reached by plane, train, bus or car. Every day the Belarusian airline “Belavia” performs several flights from Moscow to Minsk and back. Also, planes of many Russian airlines fly to the cities of Belarus. If you enter Belarus in your car, then at the Russian-Belarusian border you will have to purchase car insurance for at least 15 days. Car insurance can also be purchased in Russia, but few Russian insurance companies are accredited in Belarus.

Inside the country, it is best to travel by bus or train, these are the most economical and most reliable modes of transport.

Inside the cities, they move mainly by bus, or use taxi services. There is a metro in Minsk.

If you want to rent a car, then you need to provide a common or international passport and an international driver’s license.

Plant and Animal World in Belarus

A little less than half of the territory of Belarus is covered with forests, with a predominance of pine, birch, aspen, spruce, oak, maple, ash, linden and white beech.

Bears, wolves, foxes, bison, roe deer, elks, wild boars, hares, squirrels, beavers, otters, minks, muskrats and raccoons are found in Belarusian forests. Along the shores of lakes and swamps you can see a huge variety of birds. Among the fish in the local reservoirs and rivers, cyprinids predominate.

Money in Belarus

The official currency of the Republic of Belarus is the Belarusian ruble. Banknotes of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 5000, 10000, 20000, 50000 and 100000 Belarusian rubles are in circulation. There are no coins in circulation, the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus issues only commemorative coins.

Foreign currency can be exchanged at banks and exchange offices, and the exchange receipt should be kept until leaving the country.

Recently, non-cash payment for services has been actively developing in large cities of Belarus. Credit cards of the main international systems are accepted in large hotels, restaurants and supermarkets. ATMs can be seen in most banks and on the streets of the country’s capital. Traveler’s checks can be cashed at the offices of major banks.

According to politicsezine, Belarus is a unitary democratic republic. The head of state is the president, who is elected by popular vote for a five-year term. Executive power is exercised by the government (Council of Ministers) headed by the Prime Minister. Most of the country’s population is Belarusians (81%), Russians (11%), Poles (4%), Ukrainians (2.5%), Jews (about 1%) and small communities of Tatars, Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Lithuanians also live here and Georgians.

Belarus has two official languages – Belarusian and Russian.

Cuisine in Belarus

A variety of soups are always served for the first in Belarus: “zhur” (lean, milk or meat) based on oatmeal, cold soup “holodnik”, liquid soup from cereals and vegetables “polivka”, carrot soup “carrot”, swede soup “gryzhanka”, pumpkin soup “garbuzok”, cabbage soup with mushrooms or buckwheat porridge, thick borscht, broths with flour products, as well as all kinds of fish soup.

One of the main places in the Belarusian cuisine is occupied by flour dishes, such as thin flat cakes “perepecha”, “draniki” made from flour and potatoes, pies stuffed with “dzyad”, pancakes made from several types of flour, pea pancakes, dumplings with various fillings, dumplings “jackdaws” from various ingredients kneaded into the dough (cottage cheese, minced meat, vegetable puree, etc.) and a dough dish ”

Of the vegetable dishes, the most popular potato cutlets are “dracheny”, “zrazy”, “potato”, “hooves”, “komoviki”, “sorcerers”, “stew” and “tsybriki”, bulbar scrambled eggs, “gulbishnik” (baked with various ingredients mashed potatoes), eggs stuffed with mushrooms, carrot or potato grandmother.

As a meat snack in Belarus, they prepare homemade sausages, black pudding, lightly smoked ham or loin “vyandlin”, sausage from meat, bacon and porridge “yuts”, as well as excellent lard and smoked meat.

From traditional meat dishes, one can single out “piachisto” from large pieces of meat, baked, fried or stewed with vegetables and fruits, “bigos” stewed with vegetables and spices, poultry or game meat baked with a lot of fat, “greased”, fried together with bones and sausage in meat sauce “machanka”, “dracheny” and “jackdaws” with meat. Fish dishes are also popular, mainly boiled fish dishes.

For dessert, they serve a pie “dzyad” stuffed with apple jam, raisins and dates, baked apples, fresh berries and fruits.

From non-alcoholic drinks, it is worth trying all kinds of kvass and kissels, as well as birch (“berka”) and maple (“klyanovik”) juices. Local alcoholic drinks are represented by vodka.
