From the political arena to the arts and sciences, Bedford County has produced some of the brightest minds and most influential people in our nation’s history.
John F. Kennedy Jr., son of President John F. Kennedy, was born in Bedford County in 1960 and spent his childhood there before moving away for college. He was an active member of the community, attending local schools and participating in various community events. He tragically passed away in a plane crash off Martha’s Vineyard in 1999.
Another prominent figure from Bedford County is Thomas Paine, author of Common Sense and other works that helped to shape American thought during its early years as a nation.
