The Autonomous University of Beni “José Ballivián” was created on November 18, 1967 by the Law of the Republic of Bolivia No. 352. It is an institution of higher education that is part of the National System of Universities in the same hierarchy and autonomy as the other universities, as established by the Political Constitution of the State in articles 185 and 187. Its academic activities began on March 1, 1969 with the career of Zootechnical Engineering.
It has its headquarters in the city of Santísima Trinidad, capital of the department of Beni, and its academic structure is present in the eight provinces of the department, generating an enrollment of more than 15,000 students a year.
It has 8 Faculties and 25 Careers at the Bachelor level, 5 at the Higher Technical level and 3 at the Intermediate Technical level. In addition, the Postgraduate level plays a fundamental role in the academic preparation of professionals in the region. It also has research and production institutes, among which the National Center for the Improvement of Cattle in Beni stands out; the Lizards Project, the Beni Fisheries Development Company (EMFOPESBE), the Beni Aquatic Resources Research Center (CIRA), the University Agricultural Company, made up of 3 cattle ranches, an Animal Hospital, the San Carlitos and Casarabe, the University Health Complex and the Forest Research Institute of the Bolivian Amazon, among others.
The training of suitable, competitive professionals, with human quality and scientific excellence, with critical awareness and the ability to apply their knowledge, creativity and technological resources to solve problems of the productive base and its social environment. It promotes and develops scientific research and humanistic studies, recovering the ancestral knowledge of the region. It promotes and develops policies of extension and social interaction, participating in social processes together with its people, contributing to its development and increasing the cultural, regional and national heritage.
