Alamogordo is a city located in Otero County, New Mexico. It is situated in the Tularosa Basin at an elevation of 4,336 feet above sea level. The city has a population of around 32,000 people and covers an area of over 41 square miles. Alamogordo has a long history that dates back to 1693 when it was first settled by Spanish colonists. In 1848, it was officially recognized as a town and renamed Alamogordo after two nearby rivers. It then became an important stop along the Butterfield Overland Mail route in 1858 before becoming incorporated as a city in 1912.

Alamogordo operates under a council-manager form of government with five elected officials who serve for four-year terms. The current mayor is Richard Boss who was elected in 2018 and reelected in 2020 for his second term as mayor.
