LCD: Liquid Crystal Display

LCD stands for “Liquid Crystal Display which in English means “liquid crystal display”. The LCD is a thin Panel used for displaying images, videos and texts in various brackets as computer monitor, televisions, GPS, digital cameras, cell phones, calculators and other devices.

LCD technology (liquid crystals) applied to computer monitors and televisions is distinguished from old CRT (cathode ray tube) for lightness, portability and lower consumption of electricity, can be used in handheld devices powered by battery.

An LCD monitor has a flat thin screen that eliminates image distortion in curved screen monitors (CRT), however, have a limited viewing angle and resolution.

Plasma screens have emerged, in part, to correct some of the problems of LCD technology. The better image definition and color fidelity are the strengths for use in high definition television (HDTV).
