I was recently looking for a USB hub that could add some ports to my laptops, especially the job where I must have connected a Bluetooth wireless receiver for a wireless keyboard, a USB stick, my iPhone, an external drive, a Skype headset receiver and Even more. I found a small 4-port hub from Belkin in which just allows me to do that. But is it perfect? No, not quite.
The big advantage of this device is its very small size and its USB cable that can be stored in a compartment provided for this purpose. All we have is a small rectangle very easy to store.
Although the device has a plug for power supply no adapter does come with. All that we have included is a USB extension cable. According to topbbacolleges, the concentrator therefore has 4 USB 2.0 High Speed ports and a red LED which indicates the activity that passes through the concentrator.
- Compact size
- 4 USB ports
- 0 High-Speed at 480Mbps
- Compatible with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0
As a USB hub its first task is to add USB ports to your machine and this concentrator does it well. I have only one problem with and this is when it comes to using external hard drives. By plugging the hub into a regular USB port (not current with added USB powered ), I expected that the external drive is not working. But my surprise was when I plugged it into a port with added power and the only device I connected to the concentrator was just an external hard drive! In this particular case, I expected the concentrator to act as a stupid extension, but it looks like it reduces the current and only uses it when connected to a wall adapter …
In case I plugged anything else into the hub, I did not have a problem at all. With two USB sticks, an iPhone that syncs and a Bluetooth receiver, everything is fine.
Positive and negative
- Compact size
- USB 2.0 at 480Mbps
- Even on a port with added power, external drives do not work
If you simply need USB ports and not to connect external drives, you have a winner. Compact and ideal for laptops with its cable that stows inside the concentrator, it is perfect. If you absolutely want to plug external drives, forget about it unless you find the adapter you need and I do not believe that Belkin is selling it, in addition!
